I'm trying to decide if being a lvl 1 wizard and quickly picking up 4 levels in the class then multi-classing to beguiler is better then starting as a lvl 1 beguiler and then picking up 4 levels in wizard is a better course.
if i go the wizard course: i gain access to 2nd level spells rather quickly, gain a decent will save, okay bab(+2), scribe scroll feat(which allows me to stockpile scrolls), and a subsitition ability by giving up my familiar, specializing in one school of magic, at 5th level i gain armored mage(light), D6 hp, 6+int mod skill points, weapon skill with rapier and short sword, ability to wear light armor, trap finding class feature, an access to lvl 1 beguiler spell list.
if i go the beguiler route: i gain at level 1; +2 will defense, trap finding skill, armored mage(light), light armor prof, Rapier weapon skill, (6+int modifier)x4 skill points, skill list that revivals the bard, 6+con modifier hit points, 240gp, access to lvl 1 beguiler spells. at second level and beyond: access to 2nd level wizard spells at 4th level, okay bab at 5th level(+2), d4 hp per level, scribe scroll at 2nd level( and actually might have xp to actually use this feat), sub ability for giving up familiar, specializing in school of magic and actually have no problems with giving up illision and enchantment schools(due to beguiler), 2+int modifier skill points per level.
i'm thinking the second one looks better, but i do not know...getting those 2nd level spells by 3rd level could be so much better then actually being a caster rogue, but being able to help out as an extra rogue-ish type could be so much better to the party. plus add to the fact i get so many skill points and the ability to wear light armor, i can afford to skill money and not have to care if my mage armor wears off...i just do not know.
this is so hard to decide, i really wish i knew what everyone else would be or do in my place.
incase any of you are wondering, i'm planning on going human. my feats are leaning towards the metamagic feat retributive spell(complete mage pg 47) and toughness(phb pg 101). the prestige class i was planning on going is open for me to take at lvl 6 reguardless how i choose to build my character, which in case your wondering is the Ultimate Magus( complete mage pg 78) .
anyway, I'm just curious how everyone thinks i should start this build. well any feed back would be welcome. |
